In the Tsarskoselskaya amber workshop, the restoration of the Chinese chess set of the 18th century was completed. A unique item, from the collection of GMZ "Tsarskoe Selo", decorates the interior of the Malinova Stolbova Catherine Palace. A chess set made of bone, on a perlamtur board is exhibited in the center of the hall, on a slot table.

The chess pieces were dirty, deformed, and some bone details were missing. The chess case is also deformed, numerous chips, cracks and scratches of mother-of-pearl inserts, loss of the gilded frame of individual plates, some mother-of-pearl inserts coming out of the grooves are observed on its surface.

The Chinese chess set was purchased by GMZ "Tsarskoe Selo" in 1984 from a private person.

The deformed element of the chess piece stand. The decorative element of the bone foundation is a chess piece, the so-called Chinese "devil's ball" - the balls that are ideal in shape and are not dismountable, cut out of a single piece of bone. The art of bone carving originated in China in the 10th century BC. and reached its heyday during the reign of the Ming dynasty (1368-1644). The technique of the devil's ball is relatively young and has about 1000 years.
